E. S. O. Martin is an author and illustrator who writes fairy tales, speculative fiction, and mainstream literary fiction with strong emotional themes and atmospheric settings.
She is the author of Candid Family Portrait: A Novel and the short story collection What We Talk About When We Talk About the Apocalypse.
Her forthcoming middle grade novel, The Wood Maiden, is a historical fantasy about a girl who can turn into a tree. The story takes place in Central Europe during the 19th-century partitions of Poland.
Her fiction has been published in Every Day Fiction, Club Chicxulub, !Hastings!, The-Tusk, Flaunt magazine, among others.
She has worked as an editor, publisher, bookseller, and as an award-winning journalist. She has been a featured reader with the Patron Saints of Influence, and she was nominated for the Hazel reading series, which showcases experimental women-writers. She holds an MFA in creative writing from San Francisco State.
Her hobbies are reading, staying fit, vegan cooking, knitting, listening to awesome dance music, riding ebikes with her family, travel, and learning Polish.
She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, son, and dog, Merlin.
